The community of practice is open to any organisations working in places, and that identify with the principles of place-based systemic change. It is predominately for practitioners, and some engaged funders also attend.

In the next meeting, we will explore how to work with the realities of change in a place – particularly changing people.

Date: 27th June 2021

Time: 12:00-13.30 GMT.

Host and speakers:

  • John Hitchin, Renaisi’s CEO
  • Steph Taylor, Leeds Community Foundation and GiveBradford
  • Tom Neumark, the Peel Institute in Clerkenwell

Background to the meeting

Back in 2019 John wrote that:

“Places are a receptacle for people, but [a] problem of [thinking through the lens of] place is that it can encourage us to forget that it is a highly porous and uncertain receptacle. People and places are shaped by movement and are successful when they can move well and re-work relationships.”

In the online session, we will explore how local institutions interact with change and equity. Steph Taylor from Leeds Community Foundation and GiveBradford, and Tom Neumark from (until very recently) the Peel Institute in Clerkenwell, will talk about their experiences of this topic. There will be time for questions and discussion.
