Refugee Caseworker

Allegra Petzetaki

I am a caseworker for the Building Better Opportunities, Refugees into Sustainable Employment Programme. We aim to open new doors for refugees, particularly within employment, so that they can live more independently, be more confident by fulfilling their potential and make the best of their new lives away from their previous home. To help facilitate this, as a caseworker, I offer support and guidance to refugees on any barriers they may experience in securing job opportunities, such as issues with their job search, housing, as well as Universal Credit among others.

My responsibilities were varied and included conducting cultural awareness building workshops, assisting with the development and implementation of a labour empowerment project to help refugees build skills and consulting with refugees to better improve service provision. Besides my time working with refugees, I was a volunteer for Make A Wish for 5 years, and my responsibilities included fundraising, coordination of teams for projects and events and the development of wish journeys. I am an international relations graduate and dedicated a big part of my studies on refugee issues.

Your hobbies & interests

I enjoy cooking and spending time with my friends and family, a combination of both is ideal. I also enjoy travelling and discovering new restaurants when I can. Other than that, I am passionate about working with refugees and I get involved with different campaigns and projects surrounding refugee’s rights.
